Name
How Aquatic Foods can Deliver Action for the Global Biodiversity Framework
Date & Time
Wednesday, October 23, 2024, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Description

The health of our oceans, rivers, lakes and wetlands—and the livelihoods of millions of people around the world—depend on well-managed fisheries and aquaculture. However, 90 percent of global fisheries have reached their maximum sustainable levels, and the accelerated growth of poorly sited and managed aquaculture projects has compounded impacts to marine and freshwater ecosystems. By applying science-driven management approaches, leveraging the power of the market, and engaging communities and governments, panelists will discuss how we can not only maintain what we have left, but also bring back what we have lost.

This panel is a call to action on how can and why governments should consider aquatic food systems as one critical pathway towards achieving their national biodiversity strategies and action plans.
