Fermin is a leader of the Harakbut people of Madre de Dios, Peru and president of ANECAP, or the Executors of Administration Contracts of the Communal Reserves of Peru, who collectively manage 9 million hectares of forests between national protected areas and indigenous territories. Fermin has been working on the intersection of indigenous rights, governance, and community conservation for 20 years. He is a pioneer in the design and implementation of Amazonian Indigenous REDD+ (RIA). He is also the first indigenous person to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Senior Management of the National Service of Protected Natural Areas of Peru.
