Marinez Eymael Garcia Scherer is PhD in Marine Sciences and professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). She has extensive experience in coastal and marine public policy and climate governance and served as Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) Coordinator at Brazil’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (2023 and 2024). She co-leads the Regional Training Center Cono Sur of the Ocean Teachers Global Academy (OTGA). Marinez is also co-chair of the IOC/UNESCO Working Group on Sustainable Ocean Planning and Management. Appointed Special Envoy for the Ocean at COP 30 in 2025, she supports stakeholder engagement and dialogue on ocean and climate issues under the Brazilian Presidency.
