The High-Level Ministerial session on Wetlands at COP17 will offer a vital platform to build on the momentum of the Convention on Wetlands’ COP15 in Victoria Falls — especially its call to protect and restore freshwater ecosystems. By positioning wetlands as a connecting thread across water, biodiversity, land and climate governance, this event will support greater alignment across multilateral environmental agreements, foster synergistic implementation at the national level, and promote integrated strategies for resilience of the hydrological cycle as a contribution to the UN Water Conference in December 2026 in the United Arab Emirates.
