If nature is to serve people, and most people live in cities, we cannot forget cities. Cities across the world are therefore working with urban nature-based solutions (NBS), delivering long-term benefits for biodiversity, water, food and people. But bringing together the resources to realize the benefits that are central to urban NBS is a complex barrier that many cities face: the many benefits of nature are absorbed in a ‘scattered’ way by many different public, private and civic actors, who have different types of resources they can bring in. Therefore there is no single, straightforward way to pay for them, instead a complex coordination challenge to bring multiple resources together and govern them for transformative long-term outcomes. This interactive workshop proposes, and works through, two complementary analytical “steps” to address this coordination and financing problem.
